CANCELLED: Persuade, Don't Preach

Transforming Conversations across the Political Divide

Quakers believe that there is that of God in everyone.  But we have a hard time seeing the Divine in the people we disagree with.  We have a hard time listening and an even harder time talking. So, we don’t.  We have become frozen.  On Friday night,     Karen Tibbals will present a framework of how to listen and talk to those we disagree with, drawn from recent social psychology research. Then on Saturday, attendees will get a chance to practice this technique.  You will leave the retreat with a new way to talk, across the political divide.

Karen Tibbals is Communications Clerk of Rahway-Plainfield Monthly Meeting.  She holds an MA in Quaker History from Earlham School of Religion and is the author of a new book on the topic, Persuade, Don't Preach
